code/tags showing

by beelzebomb » Sun Sep 26, 2010 5:59 pm

Hi
I've got as far as lesson 4 in html tutorial but the website shows up with all the coding - just as it looked in textedit - why?

I'm using a macbook, not a pc, so saving the text file i am saving it as an .html file, calling it "something.htm"

Also, make sure you choose "All Files" in the "Save as type" box in Notepad when you save the document. Very important.

Hi,
I don't seem to have that choice with a mac - there's no "all files" choice as far as I can see, i only have a choice of rich text files etc etc & html..

I'm afraid I really don't have an "all files" option in textedit, i see a "web archive" option but no "all files" !

ok, half sorted - changed default to plain text, then saved as unicode (once in plain text there's no html "save as" option) - this opens a proper website - but now with the title missing!

Here's the text I wrote:

<html>

<head>
<title>my first ever website</title>
</head>

<body>
<p>well well well - a long time coming!</p>
</body>

</html>

In the webpage I now only see - "well well well - a long time coming!"

Bit of a stuttering start for me this...!

Sorry, I didn't notice you where on a Mac. Glad you made it work - stubbornness is a good when making websites :)

For others this link may be a good help: http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_do_i_s ... tedit.html

Its simple enough, you just need to place the word code surrounde by square brackets [ ] at the start of your code and at the end type /code surrounded by square brackets []
['code]
your code here
[/code]

Mac doesn't have Notepad. I'm having the same problem with my Mac, the TextEdit is the editor, and does not show an all files option.
