HTML SHell Scripting Question

by otter » Thu Dec 14, 2017 6:43 pm

Hello everyone I was wondering if someone could help me out with a problem. I'm trying to write a bash script that produces an html table report but I'm having some issues. I'm wondering how do I use shell commands when writing the script. For example, I have to parse a large file with a lot of information but I only need small parts of it for the table. So I try to use the grep or cut command to obtain what I need but when I look at the table instead of cutting out the information I need it writes out the full command. The table will actually say cut -d " " -f1 instead of a number or line that is located at that spot. When I'm writing the code for the table I write it out as <td>cut -d " " -f1</td> The problem is I want it to do the cut command and display its answer on the site, but instead it just show the whole command on the site. What can I do to fix this?
