by lyssas » Thu Mar 03, 2011 8:37 pm

im somewhat new to wordpress and i had a question as to html and wordpress sites. is there a way to keep an old html site and still use wordpress. from what i know wordpress is using php for its files. im concerned that i would lose pr or ranking if i switch from html to php. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

You are probably going to lose ranking in the short run. I shifted from ASP to PHP half a year ago and lost about 1/3 of my visitors over night.

On the other hand, if you think it will make a better website you will get a higher ranking and more visitors in the long run. I have more visitors today than I had half a year ago.

If you make a "htaccess 301 redirect" (try to google it) it will minimise the damages.

Good luck!
