Css-lesson 12: height&width

Hi, i have read css-lesson 12, about height&width, could understood that it has much to do with dimensions of the element worked with, with the width properties an element can be define, it's a box model in css, precisely, height&width define box-model in css, that's exactly works of height&width in everything, but how can a (.) dot or an atom(.) be measured because it has height-width?

in pixels 1 dot is 1 pixel
